Response to a suspected labour exploitation case reported by a Portuguese newspaper
20-01-2017

A Portuguese newspaper reported on October 24, 2016 a news, indicating a representative of a Filipino workers’ union had demanded better employment condition for Filipino workers in Macao from the Philippines and Macao governments as well as a rumour that a Filipina worker had suffered both verbal and physical maltreatment from her employer. The Human Trafficking Deterrent Measures Concern Committee highly concerned the incident and immediately coordinated the Judiciary Police and Labour Affairs Bureau to carry out joint investigation and thus to find out if there was any involvement of criminal offense or labour exploitation.
Investigation by the Judiciary Police and case record of the Labour Affairs Bureau confirmed that there had been neither element of criminal nature nor labour exploitation in the incident.
More details of the case can be consulted via the Judiciary Police response at http://www.pj.gov.mo/Web//u/cms/www/201701/10190041nsi9.pdf.
