About Us
Human trafficking is modern-day slavery. Victims of human trafficking are subjected to violence, fraud, or coercion and are forced into sexual exploitation or forced labor. Drug trafficking, human trafficking, and the illicit arms trade are among the largest types of criminal activity in the world, and human trafficking is expanding rapidly within international crime networks.
As the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR) is adjacent to Zhuhai, the Hong Kong SAR, and Shenzhen in Guangdong and serves as an important transportation hub connecting the motherland with the world, the Macao SAR Government has long devoted significant effort to combating various illegal activities. Combating human trafficking is among its priorities.
Accordingly, on 30 August 2007, the Chief Executive issued Chief Executive Dispatch No. 266/2007 (as amended by Chief Executive Dispatch No. 186/2012), thereby establishing the Human Trafficking Deterrent Measures Concern Committee, an interdepartmental body composed of representatives from various policy areas, to follow up on related matters.
The Committee aims to adopt a more comprehensive approach, grounded in respect for human rights and the protection of personal safety and freedom, to develop strategies for preventing human trafficking, protecting victims, and combating human trafficking activities.
